RACC Collects 2018 Primary Election Candidates’ Views on Arts Issues
Sam Adams is a prime mover in promoting arts and culture in the Portland, Oregon area. During terms as mayoral staffer, commissioner and mayor, Sam Adams raised money and obtained assistance from like-minded individuals and organizations to successfully implement many art-related policies and initiatives in Portland, supporting the mission of the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC).

The RACC promotes art and culture across Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties, receiving funds from public and private sources. It provides grants to schools, artists, and nonprofits; manages arts programs; and engages in fundraising, awareness campaigns, and related initiatives.

RACC provided questionnaires to all candidates in the spring 2018 primary elections seeking posts for Portland City Council; Clackamas, Washington, and Multnomah Board of Commissioners; and Metro Council. On March 13 or 14, every candidate was asked five questions and given the opportunity to respond by March 30.

Candidates were asked how they have assisted arts and culture in Portland, their opinions on the importance of arts and culture in their communities, and what the city can do to support this sector. Answers can be viewed at www.racc.org/2018/03/29/candidates-share-their-views-on-arts-and-culture-issues.
